How to make students and children want to learn?

What Methods for a teacher To Better Transmit His Knowledge?

Have you ever tried to memorize a lot of information in vain?  An embarrassing situation, but not irremediable. Here are some ideas to help you “learn to learn.”

The Book Learn To Learn By Jean-Michel Zakhartchouk.

In his book, published by Éclairer of the Canopé collection, the author offers us both field experiences and research contributions to help us on the question.

Book is intended for teachers in the form of a tool to transmit to their students the keys to “learning.” But it also aims to make people want to go deeper into these questions thanks to numerous theoretical references beyond the strict school framework.

For Jean-Michel Zakhartchouk to succeed at school and appropriate knowledge, we must establish information connections that are not obvious and require reflection on our system of thought (“moments of metacognition”). However, these moments are lacking in our school system: no time, no results at the start, challenging to get students to talk about how we learn, etc.

A Standard Message Behind A Simple Concept: Learn to Learn

Research shows us that to you learn in school, students need to have skills that traditional education does not always provide.

Likewise, if you are in the workforce today, you have indeed been led to wonder if there are rules for learning yourself or for making others know.

How To Learn To Learn?

To answer this question, researchers have constantly explored the intricacies of our brains. Many of them agree on the need to identify the memorization mechanisms best suited to the desired purpose. Our brain is structured around different types of memory; knowing their uniqueness and functioning would allow us to optimize our cognitive capacities daily.

Each individual has their methods of appropriating information and their learning styles. And today, there is a wide variety of educational approaches, processes,, and techniques.

Simple Rules For Better Learning

Four Visions: In Children, Students, Teachers, and Professionals

Although the human brain observes precise rules in learning activities, each context has its peculiarities and objectives. Are there essential learning mechanisms for children? Students? Teachers? Professionals?

Children: Have Fun Learning.

With the advent of the information society and the internet, our children must be ready to learn quickly in all circumstances because the school no longer holds a monopoly on learning. It, therefore, becomes essential to arouse, from an early age, both a reflective attitude (“whatever happens to me, what am I learning?”) And the desire to learn daily.

To nurture the pleasure of learning in children and so that it persists throughout their life, it is necessary to work simultaneously on three distinct but complementary axes:

Many game-based memorization techniques can be used for fun learning. Studies show that children remember more efficiently when the learning phases are integrated into fun and interactive activities: learning English by making a cooking recipe entirely in this language, for example.

Student: Learn To Remember Alone Or In A Group

When you are a student, it is essential to know that learning outcomes can differ depending on whether you are working alone or in a group.

Therefore, the level of concentration is higher, which is more appropriate when you have the content to learn by heart, for example. Working alone increases your intellectual capacities about the reception and memorization of information (thanks to your lessons, by reading books or listening to a podcast, for example). It is also an opportunity to get organized and put in place suitable memorization mechanisms by developing mnemonic cards or using tools such as the mind map.

“Envy” prompts us to learn and to act. It is also another way of naming motivation, allowing students to acquire knowledge, develop and succeed. Here are some conditions that can help a student motivate themselves to learn:

Teachers: Make People Want To Learn and Retain More Easily

Beyond the specialty taught, many teachers wonder about the best routines to install in the classroom so that students can learn and retain more easily.

We know, for example, thanks to advances in neuropedagogy, that the organization and segmentation of lessons influence attention and memorization. Here are two easy-to-use tips, taken from my “Boost your memory” training :

  1. Better to work intensely for 30 minutes, then take a short break before resuming at the same pace.
  2. Stop 5 to 10 minutes before the end of the lesson, then encourage the students to recall the course of the class. In this way, you promote the first memorial anchoring.

Pros: Learn To Learn & Share Experiences

Training professionals have theorized the main rules for “learning to learn” in a professional environment. For example, by relying on the proposals of Marc Dennery, we can identify seven practices of learning inactive adults:
